The estate of a man found dead at a local seafood processing facility has filed a wrongful death suit, alleging the company failed to provide him with medical care after he was injured on the job.
Sidnitra Bias claims Sidney Carroll Prevost Jr. died Sept. 27, 2008, while working for Gulf Harvest Seafood near the Intercoastal Canal in Port Arthur.
The 47-year-old Prevost hit his head at the facility and asked to be taken to the hospital, according to the complaint filed Dec. 19, 2008, in Jefferson County District Court.
Instead, the company told him to lie down in the break room, the suit states.
Bias, who filed the suit individually and on behalf of the estate of Prevost, alleges no one went to check on Prevost, and he was found dead in the room.
"Mr. Prevost's death could have been prevented by the slightest degree of care on the part of Gulf Harvest," the suit states. "However, not only did they fail in rendering the care, they were consciously indifferent to Mr. Prevost's condition."
Because of Prevost's death, Bias suffered the loss of Prevost's care, maintenance, support, services, advice and counsel and incurred funeral costs, according to the complaint.
Bias also claims a loss of Prevost's love, companionship, society and support and experienced mental anguish, a loss in inheritance and a loss of consortium.
The suit alleges Gulf Harvest committed the following acts of negligence:
Bias is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court and unspecified exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interests, costs, attorney's fees and other relief.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd of the 172nd District Court.
