Beaumont man sues dry cleaner over missing clothes

In a well-publicized case in 2007, Roy Pearson tried to get $54 million in a civil suit against his dry cleaner over a pair of missing pants, but his efforts were shot down by a Washington, D.C. judge.

Perhaps hoping for a better outcome than Pearson's, a Beaumont man has filed suit against Munro's Dry Cleaning Co., alleging not all of his clothes were returned to him.

J.D. Roberts claims he contracted with Munro's Dry Cleaning to store a large number of clothes for him.

In September 2007, Roberts asked the items be returned to him, but a great number of the items were not given back, according to the complaint.

"They have been either misplaced or otherwise lost by Defendant," the suit states.

Because of his lost clothing, Roberts claims he has suffered mental anguish, has incurred out-of-pocket expenses and lost use of the items.

Allegations in Roberts's complaint include breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation, negligent hiring, supervision and management and theft of property.

Roberts is seeking actual damages and additional damages not to exceed three times the portion of the actual damages, plus interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

John D. West and Scott Renick of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County Circuit Court case number: E184-811.
