Offshore worker sues two companies over 'disabling injures'

An offshore worker is suing his employer's employer for injuries he received while on the job.

Neal Elk filed suit against Spartan Offshore Drilling and Schlumberger Technology on Nov. 19 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to his suit, Elk was working as a pipeline welder on March 2 for Select Services Contractors on a offshore rig owned by Spartan and under the supervision of Schlumberger, "when he sustained severe and disabling bodily injuries."

"Said injuries were caused in whole or in part by the negligence of Defendants, including Schlumberger's company man," the suit states.

The suit does not say how Elk was injured.

On top of exemplary damages, he is suing for past and future mental anguish, medical expenses, impairment and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Elk is represented by attorney Francis Spagnoletti.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
