Wrongful death suit filed on behalf of cyclist killed in Beaumont

A daughter has filed suit against the motorist who killed her father while he was out riding his bicycle.

On behalf of Anselmo Tristan-Sanchez, Emma Reyes filed suit against Jonathan Woods on Dec. 9 in Jefferson County District Court, alleging Woods negligently failed to keep a proper lookout while driving his vehicle.

According to the suit, on April 23 Tristan-Sanchez was riding his bicycle "in a cautious and prudent manner" when he approached the intersection of Avenue A and College Street in Beaumont.

Woods, who was allegedly driving at an unsafe speed while passing through the intersection, struck Tristan-Sanchez and killed him, court papers say.

The suit does not give any more details of the incident.

Reyes is suing for wrongful death damages.

She is represented by Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.
