Woman sues stylist over botched highlighting job

GALVESTON – A Friendswood woman claims a botched highlighting job burned her scalp and stunted her hair's growth, recent court documents say.

Jessica Sharer's lawsuit against Final Touch Hair Salon and one of its stylists, Carolyn Menotti, alleges that a certain product applied to the plaintiff's hair on Oct. 22, 2008, was used improperly.

The suit was filed July 21 in Galveston County Court No. 2.

Sharer was a customer of Final Touch for approximately a year.

According to the original petition, moments before the incident in question, defendant Menotti told the plaintiff about a product that would reduce the need to highlight frequently.

"Apparently, defendant Menotti did not apply the product correctly and the plaintiff's scalp began burning," the suit says.

"By the time the plaintiff got home, her hair had turned white."

Sharer originally assumed the white hair was a result of a bad highlighting job, but later learned her hair was burned and damaged, the complaint states.

She insists that she suffered physical pain, mental anguish, impairment, and disfigurement thus seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Attorney Alton C. Todd of Friendswood is representing the plaintiff.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County Court No. 2 Judge C.G. "Trey" Dibrell III.
