The mother of a South Park Middle School child has filed suit against Jacqueline Stewart, claiming she struck her son with her rearview mirror nearly two years ago.
On behalf of Joseph Jenkins, Loretta Patterson filed the suit Sept. 14 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the suit, on Oct. 3, 2008, Jenkins was walking to school on the side of the road on Woodron Street heading towards South Park, when Stewart struck him with a car mirror.
Because of the incident, the minor suffered from soft tissue back discomfort, deep tissue contusions to his left elbow and a closed head injury.
The suit accuses Stewart of failing to keep a proper lookout and of failing to yield to a pedestrian.
Patterson is suing for her son's medical expenses and mental anguish.
She is represented by Beaumont attorney David LaRue of the Loncar & Associates law firm.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
