Brent Coon's law firm sued for defaulting on American Express credit card

According to a recent lawsuit brought by American Express, the Beaumont law firm Brent Coon & Associates has neglected to pay its corporate credit card balance, racking up more than $170,000 in charges on a past due account.

Alleging breach of contract and unjust enrichment, American Express filed suit against Coon's firm Dec. 27 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show the value of the goods and services purchased by Coon's law at $170,818.72.

In its suit, American Express alleges Brent Coon & Associates has received its statements without protest for months, but neglects to pay the balance due.

"Defendant used the American Express card to purchase goods or services for which no payment was made," the suit states.

In addition to actual damages, American Express is seeking an award of attorney's fees and court costs.

The company is represented by attorney Bruce Johnson of the Dallas law firm Johnson & Silver.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. D189-023
