Woman trips on dance floor, sues Star Bar

Star Bar

While exiting the dance floor at Star Bar, Beaumont resident Kathryn Gober fell flat on her face. She is suing the Crockett Street nightspot claiming she tripped because of poor lighting.

Gober filed her suit against Nimtz & Pena Business Ventures, doing business as Star Bar, on Jan. 28 in Jefferson Count District Court.

According to her petition, on March 21, 2009, Gober was exiting the dance floor "when she tripped and fell over an unlighted, darkly painted, unmarked raised bandstand adjacent to the dance floor in what would be assumed to be a normal walkway."

Gober says she landed on her face, knocking out several teeth and causing damage to her neck and mouth. She also claims to suffer from blurred vision.

In her suit, Gober alleges Star Bar negligently promoted use of the dance floor without ensuring all potentially dangerous hazards were eliminated.

On top of exemplary damages, Gober is suing to recover damages for her medical expenses and mental anguish.

Attorney Kenneth Lewis of the Beaumont law firm Bush Lewis represents her.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
