A lawsuit accusing a nursing home of twice forgetting to administer medications to a patient, resulting in two separate hospitalizations, was recently filed.
On behalf of Denzil Weaver, Kandace Harris filed suit against Windsor N.H.R. Partners of Beaumont, doing business as the Jefferson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, on May 25 in Jefferson County District Court.
Court records show that on May 26, 2009, Weaver was admitted to Jefferson Nursing for rehabilitation for a left total knee replacement. Her physician had prescribed Coumadin to prevent blood clots.
However, the center never administered the drug, resulting in her hospitalization on June 7, 2009. When she returned to Jefferson Nursing, the center neglected to once again administer the drug, resulting in a second hospitalization, the suit alleges.
The suit accuses Jefferson Nursing of negligence for falling below the standard and care and failing to administer the drug.
The plaintiffs are suing for Weaver's mental anguish, pain and medical expenses.
