'Ultimate Fight' night at Gold Club ends in beat down, lawsuit

The Gold Club, Beaumont

A local man claims he was assaulted two years ago while watching an "Ultimate Fight" broadcast at The Gold Club.

Claiming The Gold Club should have prevented the assault, Brandon Sparks filed suit against the exotic dancing establishment's owner, Fannett Entertainment, along with the men who allegedly attacked him, Kyle Hardin and Andrew Richie. The suit was filed on Sept. 15 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 19, 2009, Sparks, "a young, Lamar University student," was attending a party at The Gold Club to watch the fight on pay-per-view, when Hardin and Richie assaulted him from behind.

The suit does not state if the two men were employees – arguing that if they were employees, Gold Club was negligent for hiring them, and if the men weren't, Gold Club was negligent for failing to provide proper security.

Sparks required jaw surgery after the assault, the suit states.

However, the suit does not state what prompted the men to attack Sparks.

The plaintiff is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney J.J. Bragg represents him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. B190-919
