Kountze resident Robert Slott has filed a Jones Act suit against Gulf States Dredging for injuries he received from a barge wench.
The suit was filed Nov. 14 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Aug. 21 Slott was serving aboard a vessel owned by Gulf States Dredging and claims he was "injured when the wench was engaged while attempting to move the barge in Beaumont on the Neches River."
The suit does not give any more details on the incident.
Slott alleges the defendant failed to provide him with a safe workplace.
He is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.
Beaumont attorney David Wilson of Provost Umphrey represents him.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
