A Port Arthur man has filed suit against the driver who he claims failed to yield the right-of-way and struck his vehicle.
Christopher Guidry claims he was driving west on 39th Street in Port Arthur approaching Shepherd St. on June 7, 2010, when defendant Lourdes Lopez failed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic and struck Guidry’s vehicle.
Because of the collision, Guidry suffered from cervical neck pain, lumbar back pain and left shoulder and scapula pain and incurred medical costs of $7,553.05, according to the complaint filed Feb. 23 in Jefferson County District Court. In addition, he experienced physical pain, suffering and mental anguish, the suit states.
Guidry blames Loudes Lopez for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply his brakes, failed to avoid the collision and failed to drive in the same manner as a reasonable person.
Guidry also names Luis Espinoza as a defendant, saying he negligently entrusted his vehicle to Lopez.
In his complaint, Guidry is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest legal interest rate, actual damages and other relief the court deems just.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
