Barratry suit brought against Kubosh Bail Bonding, Kubosh Law Office

Area resident Michael Youngblood has filed a civil barratry suit against Kubosh Bail Bonding and the Kubosh Law Office, alleging he was unwantedly solicited for representation for his traffic tickets.

The suit was filed April 5 in Jefferson County District Court and also names Paul Kubash and Felix Michael Kubosh as defendants.

Barratry, more commonly referred to as ambulance chasing, is illegal in Texas and applies to lawyers who inappropriately solicit clients for profit.

According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 19 Youngblood contacted Kubosh Bail, which is owned by Michael Kubosh. Youngblood needed to post bond on three traffic tickets that were in warrant status.

According to the suit, Youngblood claims he informed a Kubosh Bail representative that he needed a quote and was placed on hold. When someone came back on the line, it was a different person and this person was a representative of the Kubash Law Firm.

Kubosh Law is believed to be owned by Paul Kubosh, the suit states.

“The Kubosh Law representative then quoted plaintiff a price for a bond for his traffic cases,” the suit states.

“The representative … further indicated that the price for a bond included the posting of bond as well as the fee for an attorney to represent plaintiff on his traffic cases. Plaintiff never sought an attorney to represent him in connection with obtaining his bond.”

Youngblood then received a call from Michael Kubosh, who represented himself as a licensed attorney, which, upon information and belief, is false, the suit states.

A web search shows a Paul Kobosh as an attorney for Kubosh & Associates Law Office in Houston.

Youngblood alleges the defendants violated Texas law and seeks to collect $20,000 from the defendant individuals, plus attorney’s fees.

Attorney Brian Zimmerman of the Houston law firm Zimmerman, Axelrad, Myer, Stern & Wise represents him.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.
