HOUSTON - After she was supposedly fired from Taylor Morrison of Texas Inc. and Taylor Morrison Inc. for lodging a complaint about racism in the workplace, Sylan Chang pursues legal action.

Chang filed a lawsuit against the defendants in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas on June 17.

She was employed as a senior sales associate at the time of the events for which she complains.

According to the suit, a white co-worker referred to her as the "little Asian lady" to other employees, buyers and prospects as well as acted hostile towards her both physically and over the phone.

It adds the plaintiff complained through e-mail and in face to face conversations with her superiors to no avail as "their response was one of indifference."

Chang further alleges that her then-direct supervisor told her that "the Asian culture is difficult to work with."

One last complaint against the colleague who was purportedly abusive toward the plaintiff was filed on May 8, 2012.

Taylor Morrison fired Chang four days later to which the suit argues was retaliatory.

A jury trial is requested.

Attorney Melissa Moore of Moore & Associates in Houston is representing Chang.

Case No. 4:13-CV-1755
