Jasper County woman sues after slip and fall at store

A Jasper County woman has filed a lawsuit against Wal-Mart claiming that the store failed to warn her about a liquid that was on the floor which caused her to slip and fall.

Debbie Collier filed suit against Wal-Mart Stores Texas on June 13 in Jasper County District Court. The defendant removed the case to the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division on July 10.

The incident occurred on Aug. 7, 2011, as Collier was shopping at the Wal-Mart stored located in Jasper. Collier states she slipped and fell in a liquid that was on the floor as she turned the corner at the front end of the cash register.

She also claims that she noticed footprints on the floor where other customers had tracked through the spill.

Collier alleges that there were no warning signs in or around the area at the time of her fall. The defendant is accused of failing to reduce or eliminate the risk or warn invitees regarding the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff is asking for an award of damages for medical expenses, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, physical impairment, physical pain, mental anguish, disfigurement, interest and court costs.

Collier is represented by Beaumont attorneys Jonathan Juhan and J J Bragg.

U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone is assigned to the case.
