MARSHALL - A Daingerfield woman is suing the manufacturers of the drug Lipitor claiming she was not warned that the drug increased her risk of developing diabetes.
Barbara Henson filed suit against Pfizer Inc. on July 23 in the Eastern District of Texas, Marshall Division.
Lipitor is a member of the drug class known as statins and is prescribed to reduce the amount of cholesterol and other fatty substances in the blood. Henson was prescribed Lipitor in 2006.
The defendant is accused of failing to adequately warn physicians and consumers, including Henson, of the risk of developing diabetes from Lipitor. The plaintiff developed diabetes in 2009.
The defendant is accused of product liability, failure to warn, negligence, breach of implied warranty, fraud and constructive fraud
The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for medical expenses, compensatory damages for physical and emotional injuries, pain and suffering, economic loss, punitive damages, interest and court costs.

A jury trial is requested.
U.S. District Judge Rodney Gilstrap is assigned to the case.
