Bicyclist insists wreck left her with broken bones

GALVESTON - A League City woman claims she was involved in an accident in her city while riding her bicycle and is pursuing legal action.

Jennifer Gorberg filed a lawsuit against Jade Puckett, also of League City, in Galveston County District Court on Nov. 14, pinning responsibility for the Oct. 28 wreck on Puckett.

Gorberg was operating her bike and in the process of entering the intersection of West League City Parkway and Westover Park Avenue.

Meanwhile, Puckett was waiting at a stop sign on Westover Park.

Court papers allege Puckett, however, "failed to yield the right-of-way and hit the plaintiff."

They add the purported impact resulted in broken bones for Gorberg, who says she required surgery to repair them.

Puckett is faulted for:

  • Failing to maintain a proper lookout;

  • Driving without paying enough attention;

  • Failing to timely apply the brakes to avoid a collision; and

  • Failing to control her speed.

Consequently, the claimant seeks unspecified monetary damages.

She is represented by attorney Jonathan S. Harris of Schechter, McElwee, Shaffer & Harris LLP in Houston.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Michelle Slaughter.
