GALVESTON - The mother of an 18-year-old man who died in an alleged motorcycle accident in Sugar Land last month seeks restitution from an Illinois motorist, according to recent court documents.
Tamlyn Gregg filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Northbrook, Ill., resident Eduard Vernovsky on behalf of the late Hunter Austin Gregg in Galveston federal court on Nov. 25.
The suit explains that the younger Gregg rode his motorcycle eastbound in the 9600 block of U.S. 90 near Alkire Lake Drive the night of Oct. 5 when Vernovsky reportedly failed to yield the right-of-way to him.
According to the original petition, the defendant, who was traveling westbound, then "attempted to cross four lanes of eastbound U.S. 90 onto Alkire Lake Drive" and caused a "sudden and violent" collision with Hunter A. Gregg.
The decedent was transported to Memorial Hermann Downtown Hospital where he passed away.
Vernovsky is blamed for:
- Failing to keep a proper lookout;
- Failing to timely and properly apply his brakes;
- Failing to maintain proper control of his vehicle;
- Failing to turn to avoid a collision; and
- Failing to control his speed.
A jury trial is requested.
