A Texas family is suing over claims their father was negligently and fatally exposed to carcinogenic chemicals by his employer.

Lance and Terry Guidry, surviving children of Joseph Guidry, deceased, filed a lawsuit Feb. 24 in the Jefferson County District Court against Chevron U.S.A. Inc., citing gross neglect.

According to the complaint, Joseph Guidry was employed by Gulf Oil, or Chevron, in Jefferson County where he was exposed to carcinogenic benzene and developed leukemia, which led to his death on Sept. 22.

The defendant is accused of being aware of the dangerous condition and failing to warn workers of the chemicals.

Lance and Terry Guidry are being represented in the case by attorneys J. Keith Hyde and D'Juana Parks of Provost Umphrey Law Firm PLLC in Beaumont.
