A woman has filed suit against Hyatt, alleging she lost her job of more than 25 years due to her age and arthritis.
Remedios Cuevas, 58, was working for the Hyatt hotel when its employees began discriminating against her by using pre-textual and harassing reprimands, which led to her discharge on Sept. 16, 2014, according to the complaint filed Aug. 5 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas.
The suit names Hyatt Corp. and Polk Smith Regency LLC doing business as Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Because of her job loss, Cuevas lost her pension and retirement benefits and suffered mental anguish and emotional distress, the suit states. She says the hotel discriminated against her due to her age and her disability.
Cuevas suffered from chronic osteoarthritis of the knees, but says she is still able to perform her duties as an in-room dining server.
In her complaint, Cuevas is seeking actual, liquidated and punitive damages, plus attorney fees, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
