Carpenter blames Exxon Mobil for injuries

A Jefferson County man is suing over claims he was injured while working as a carpenter in Beaumont.

Jason Young filed a lawsuit Sept. 30 in Jefferson County District Court against Exxon Mobil Corporation, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, Young was employed by Brock Group Inc. as a carpenter working on Exxon Mobil's premises in Beaumont on Aug. 13, when he was helping his crew take down scaffolding adjacent to a unit on the premises and was struck by an electrical support bracket that was not part of the scaffolding and not properly attached to the unit. Young says he sustained injuries to his neck, shoulders and body.

Exxon Mobil is accused of negligence in failing to find and correct the dangerous condition and provide the plaintiff with a safe place to work and granting a work permit when it was not safe to perform the work.

Young seeks damages, including past and future medical expenses, lost wages and past and future lost earning capacity, and loss of household services, interest and costs of court.

He is represented by attorneys Jon B. Burmeister and Tommy L. Yeates of Moore Landrey in Beaumont.
