Refinery worker seeks damages for injuries from fire

A refinery worker has sued two companies, alleging negligence in a 2013 fire.

Ludie Joe Davis, an employee of ExxonMobil, filed a lawsuit March 24 in Jefferson County District Court, against Clean Harbors Industrial Services Inc. and Signature Industrial Services, alleging injuries as a result of a workplace accident in April 2013.

According to the complaint, on April 17, 2013, Davis was working at the ExxonMobil refinery in Beaumont when an explosion created a fire around a heat exchanger unit. The suit alleges both defendants were negligent and Clean Harbors was remiss in failing to properly clean all combustible materials out of the unit, and Signature was negligent in using an open flame to remove a channel head from the heat exchanger.

The suit alleges failure to properly test, clean and monitor the unit in question, warn workers of danger, and utilize safer methods,

Davis seeks: more than $1 million in compensation for medical expenses; special and general damages; pre- and post-judgment interest; attorney fees; expenses and costs. She is represented by attorney Taylor Miller of Reaud, Morgan & Quinn in Beaumont.
