JC suit over rear-end collision settles before trial

Head on collision 300x225

By DAVID YATES

More than three years ago, Houston resident Carrie Oldbury filed suit against Patrick Gravett, a Wimberley resident, for rear-ending her vehicle.

The case, filed Jan. 25, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court, was set to go to trial Monday, June 15 but settled before a jury could be selected, according to a courthouse official.

According to the lawsuit, Gravett rear-ended Oldbury on April 29, 2010. The suit fails to specifically state how or where the incident occurred.

The suit alleged the defendant negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and observe traffic signals.

The plaintiff was seeking damages for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Ryan Scott originally filed the suit on the plaintiff’s behalf.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is presiding over the case.
