Former JC assistant DA wants law license reinstated

Radford mug 2

Wendell Conn Radford Jr., the former assistant district attorney who pleaded guilty to the offense of conspiracy to commit mail fraud eight years ago, recently filed a petition for reinstatement of license to practice law.

The petition was filed April 23 in Jefferson County District Court and names the State Bar of Texas as the respondent.

Radford practiced law from May 4, 1990 until Aug. 26, 2008, when his license to practice was revoked by order of the Board of Disciplinary Appeals, the petition states.

“Petitioner’s disbarment was based on one count of conspiracy to commit mail fraud,” the petition states. “Petitioner has made restitution to all persons … who have suffered financial loss by reason of the offense.”

Radford was initially charged with a total of 10 counts for conspiracy to commit mail fraud, mail fraud and money laundering. The other charges were dropped in exchange for Radford’s guilty plea of conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

The charges centered on Radford’s legal work for Helena Laboratories.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
