Woman sues truckers in Corvette’s collision with rig

A Harris County resident filed a lawsuit against two out-of-state firms alleging vehicular negligence in a 2013 motor vehicle crash involving a Peterbuilt Tractor-Trailer.

Barbara Stephenson sued Stone Trucking Company, Inc. of Kiefer, Oklahoma, and Action Resources, Inc. of Hanceville, Alabama, in Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas on June 9, claiming liability for a June 2013 collision. The suit named James A. Sherrson as an employee driving the rig at the time.

According to the suit, Sherrson lost control of the tractor-trailer he was operating on June 14, 2013, slamming into Stephenson’s Black 2000 Chevy Corvette, and allegedly causing personal and property damage.

The complaint stated that both defendants are vicariously negligent. Stephenson alleged failure to keep a proper lookout, use brakes, exercise vigilance and obey the speed limit. She further maintained that both companies are remiss in neglecting to properly train, educate and supervise the driver, screen employees for health impediments that could inhibit safe driving, and in entrusting the rig to their employee.

Stephenson claimed spinal injuries, medical expenses, lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life, along with property damage. Alleging pain, suffering and anguish, the plaintiff seeks more than $75,000 in compensation, interest, attorney’s fees, expenses and costs. She is represented by Dennis Spurling of Houston.
