After sustaining injuries in a motor vehicle collision in 2004, a woman, her daughter and another passenger are taking the driver that hit them to trial in hopes of receiving compensation for their injuries and other damages.
LaToya Williams et al vs. Travis Sentel Hinkston is set for trial May 21 in the 172nd Jefferson County District Court, Judge Donald Floyd presiding.
An automobile trial is on Judge Don Floyd's docket, 172nd Judicial District, and set for trial this Monday.
According to the plaintiffs' original petition, on Nov. 27, 2004, Williams, her daughter Joya and Shaquinta Comeaux, plaintiffs, were traveling eastbound on Lucas Drive when the incident occurred.
"They were stopped at a stop sign when their vehicle was suddenly, violently and unexpectedly struck from behind by a U-Haul truck driven by Hinkston," the suit said. "He received a citation for failure to control his speed."
The plaintiffs claim the defendant was negligent while operating the vehicle, failing to control his speed and stay alert.
LaToya Williams and Comeaux claim they sustained severe personal injuries "which in all probability will be permanent." Williams also sustained damage to her vehicle.
Plaintiffs are suing for physical pain, mental anguish, car costs, medical costs and court costs.
