Groves Couple sues Allstate for denying portion of hurricane claim

Groves couple Richard and Carolyn Lasseigne are the latest Golden Triangle residents to jump aboard the "sue Allstate bandwagon."

Claiming Allstate Texas Lloyds failed to pay the full portion of their Hurricane Rita claim, the Lasseignes filed a deceptive trade practices lawsuit against the provider with the Jefferson County District Court on June 15. Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, will preside over the case.

According to the plaintiffs' original petition, the couple submitted a written claim following Rita. "Allstate has failed and refused to promptly investigate and pay plaintiffs' claim in full."

The suit does state the original amount of the couples' claim, how much Allstate denied, or the extent of the couples' property damages. The suit only states Allstate violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act, along with the Texas Insurance Code and also breached its contract with the plaintiffs.

"Defendants violationswere committed knowingly and intentionally," the suit said.

The plaintiffs are suing for actual, economic, consequential and exemplary damages, plus interest and all court costs.

The Groves couple is demanding a trial by jury and is represented by Reaud, Morgan & Quinn attorney Tom Kiehnhoff.
