BISD sued for collision with bus

A pair of Harris County residents have filed suit against the Beaumont Independent School District. Bertha and Bonnie Perez claim they were injured when a BISD bus struck the back of their vehicle.

The suit was filed in the Jefferson County District Court on Jan. 8.

According to the plaintiffs' petition, on March 7, 2006, Bertha and Bonnie were hit from behind by BISD bus driver Charles Edward Gregory.

The suit does not state where the accident occurred, nor does the suit describe the nature of the plaintiffs' injuries.

The suit only says Gregory was negligent for failing to keep a proper lookout, speeding, failing to apply his brakes in a timely fashion and acting with a disregard for the safety of others.

The plaintiffs are suing BISD under the legal doctrine of respondeat superior, Latin for "let the master answer."

The plaintiffs are suing for past and future mental anguish, impairment and lost wages.

They are demanding a trial by jury and are represented by the Law Offices of Alexander Gurevich.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. A180-995
