Many citizens love to complain that traffic cops very rarely themselves follow the rules they are tasked to enforce. So when an Orange police officer ran a stop sign and hit Andy Guillory, Guillory jumped at the chance to sue the city.
Guillory filed his suit against the city in the Orange County District Court on April 3.
According to his suit, on Sept. 12, 2007, Guillory was "hit by an Orange police officer, Robert Arnold, who negligently ran a stop sign." Arnold was traveling east on Cypress while Guillory was northbound on 5th Street.
"Officer Arnold disregarded a stop sign and struck Guillory's vehicle on its passenger side," the suit said.
"Guillory's truck then hit a stationary vehicle then went up into the yard of a resident where it hit a tree. He was knocked unconscious and has herniated discs at four levels in his lumbar spine."
Guillory is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost earnings, medical expenses and pain.
He is demanding a trial by jury and is represented by attorney Cory Itkin of the Arnold & Itkin law firm.
The case has been assigned to the 128th Judicial District.
