This Just In: Recent civil suits filed in Jefferson County District Courts

Sept. 24

  • Gertrude Holmes vs. Micah and Gerald Vanschoubroek

    PA � Jesse Branick, J- Gary Sanderson

    On Sept. 14, 2008, the plaintiff was in an automobile collision with Micah, who allegedly failed to maintain a proper lookout and caused the collision. The suit also faults Gerald for negligently entrusting his vehicle to Micah.

    The plaintiff is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and impairment, plus actual damages and attorneys' fees.

  • Florida Thomas vs. Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Co. et al

    The plaintiff is suing the insurance company and several of its claims adjusters for allegedly refusing to pay at least a portion of her Hurricane Rita damage claim. The suit alleges the defendants are guilty of Texas Insurance Code and DTPA violations.

    The plaintiff is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees.

  • Paula Howard vs. Printpack Inc.

    Sometime in February, Howard took a functional capacity exam with her employer, Printpack. The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently made the exam "more difficult than was required for the job of a lab technician" and that she injured her feet and back as a result.

    The plaintiff is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and impairment, plus actual damages and attorneys' fees.

  • Nederland Economic Development Corp. vs. Red Door Cafe Partnership et al

    The NEDC filed suit against RDCP for failing to live up to its grant requirements. The NEDC promotes economic development within the city and gives grants to business under the stipulation they meet certain economic requirements.

    The plaintiff is seeking actual and consequential damages, plus attorneys' fees..

    On Sept. 24, 2007, the plaintiff was in an automobile collision with John, who allegedly failed to maintain a proper lookout and caused the collision. The suit also faults Mary for negligently entrusting her vehicle to Micah.

    On March 2, 2007, Anthony, operating a vehicle owned by Jesse and insured by Lenora, negligently made an improper lane change and slammed into the plaintiff. The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and impairment, plus actual damages and attorneys' fees.

    On Oct. 11, 2006, Savoy, a city employee, was traveling westbound on Delaware. He was towing a box trailer while driving a tractor when he allegedly failed to yield at a red light and struck the plaintiff's vehicle.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and impairment, plus actual damages and attorneys' fees.
