Total donates $1M to Red Cross for Ike victims

The owners of a Port Arthur refinery are lending a hand to help their employees and other area residents that have been affected by Hurricane Ike.

Total S.A. announced a $1 million donation to the American Red Cross for disaster relief assistance for the Texas Gulf Coast, according to an Oct. 3 press release.

"The storm's damage reached many of the communities of Total's employees, including those with Total's Port Arthur Refinery, Total Holdings USA, Total Petrochemicals USA Inc., Total E&P USA Inc., Total Gas & Power North America Inc. and Atlantic Trading & Marketing Inc.," the press release states.

"In a symbol of solidarity to the many employees who live and work in the areas affected by the storm, Total's donation supports the communities of its employees and partners. By supporting this non-profit organization, Total is enabling the Red Cross to help provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to victims of the disaster."

Total Petrochemicals USA Inc., which employs more than 1,600 people in the United States, is headquartered in Houston and produces polypropylene, polyethylene, polystyrene, styrene, base chemicals and transportation fuels. The company has manufacturing facilities in Texas and Louisiana as well as a research and development facility in La Porte and a refinery in Port Arthur.
