Woman claims colon operation botched, sues doctor and surgery center

Claiming her surgery was botched, Alexandra Jones has filed suit against the physician who performed the surgery and the facility where the surgery took place.

Jones filed suit against Dr. Jerome Schrapps and the Southeast Texas Surgical Associates on Oct. 31 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court documents show that on June 26, 2007, Dr. Schrapps performed a sigmoid colectomy (colon surgery) on Jones. She was discharged on July 3, 2007.

Two days later, Jones was readmitted and "was found to have a ligature on her right ureter causing a pelvic abscess and several subsequent surgeries," the suit says.

Jones claims the defendants negligently failed to properly care, diagnosis and treat her.

She is suing for past and future medical expenses, mental anguish and impairment, plus attorneys' fees.

Jones is represented by attorney Adam Terrell of the Weller, Green, Toups & Terrell law firm.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th Judicial District.
