This Just In: Recent civil suits filed in Jefferson County District Courts

Jan. 9

  • Rosalia Bruno vs. Keith Moreau

    PA - John Carwile, J - Milton Shuffield

    On March 8 the plaintiff was traveling on Highway 73 when she was in an automobile collision with the defendant. The suit does not state how the incident occurred.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

  • Donyale McPherson vs. Juan Ceja

    PA - John Carwile, J - Donald Floyd

    On Nov. 2, 2007 the plaintiff was injured in an automobile collision near Lewis Drive when the defendant hit his vehicle. The suit does not describe the incident in detail.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

  • John Clayton vs. Allstate Texas Lloyds et al

    On behalf of the estate of Inez Clayton, the plaintiff is suing Allstate for allegedly refusing to pay him for the flood damage he suffered after Hurricane Ike struck Southeast Texas.

    The plaintiff claims the policy allowed for him to recover such benefits.

    He is alleging the defendant breached its contract and is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus all court costs.

  • Danny and Sherrie Kotz vs. Texas Farm Bureau Underwriters

    The plaintiffs are suing Allstate for allegedly refusing to pay them for windstorm damage they suffered after Hurricane Ike struck Southeast Texas.

    The plaintiffs claim their Beaumont home was covered by the policy and allowed for them to recover such benefits.

    They are alleging the defendant breached its contract and is suing for actual and consequential damages, plus all court costs.

    On behalf of her minor children, the plaintiff is suing the guardian of Joaguin Rodriguez for allegedly causing an automobile collision on June 29, 2008, in Bell County, Texas.

    The suit does not describe how the incident occurred.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

    On Feb. 27, 2007, in Port Arthur the plaintiff was traveling on US 69 when he slowed for a traffic accident and was rear-ended by the defendant.

    The plaintiff alleges the defendant driver negligently failed to keep a proper lookout and is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and impairment.

  • Pamela Cole vs. HEB Grocery Co.

    As new complaints of possibly salmonella contaminated peanut butter products has HEB pulling items from its shelves, a Beaumont woman is filing suit against the grocer over an earlier salmonella outbreak she claims made her ill two years ago.

    Pamela Cole bought a jar of allegedly contaminated Peter Pan peanut butter on Feb. 7, 2007, from HEB Food Store at 3930 East Lucas Drive in Beaumont, and became ill after eating it.

    She is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and court costs.

  • Melba Hoffpauir vs. Market Basket Food Stores et al

    A Beaumont woman who claims a jar of Peter Pan peanut butter made her violently ill two years ago has filed suit against the company that manufactured the peanut butter and the grocery store that sold it to her.

    Melba Hoffpauir bought a jar of allegedly contaminated peanut butter on Feb. 10, 2007, from Market Basket located at 800 North Main St. in Vidor, and claims she became ill after eating it.

    She is suing for past and future mental anguish, lost wages, medical expenses and court costs.

  • Frank Goodman et al vs. Ethex Corp. et al

    PA - Mark Sparks, J - Gary Sanderson

    The family of a Jefferson County woman has filed suit against drug manufacturer over allegations the woman's prescription contained a lethal amount of morphine because the tablets were too large.

    Frank Morris Goodman and Misty Sonnier allege Judy Goodman died after an accidental overdose from an extended-release morphine sulfate tablet prescription filled at a Walgreen pharmacy in Nederland.

    According to the complaint filed against KV Pharmaceuticals and its subsidiary Ethex Corp., Judy Goodman took the medicine from June 2007 until she died on April 10 from drug toxicity. Walgreens was not named as a defendant in the suit
