A Jefferson County woman is suing the Beaumont Independent School District and one of its bus drivers, alleging she was hit by a bus when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign.

Brenda Narcisse filed suit against the school district and against bus driver Michael Wayne Pete on March 18 in Jefferson County District Court.

Narcisse claims she was stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of Monica Lane and Washington Boulevard in Beaumont on March 19, 2007, when Pete failed to yield the right-of-way and struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Narcisse suffered permanent injuries and suffered physical pain and mental anguish in the past and future and disfigurement in the past and future, the complaint says.

She also experienced physical impairment in the past and future and incurred medical costs, according to the suit.

Narcisse is seeking unspecified actual damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems appropriate.

Charlton P. Hornsby of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
