Bruning to lead nation's AGs

Bruning

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline)-Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning is the new president of the National Association of Attorneys General.

Bruning, a Republican, will serve as the Washington-based association's 102nd president. He was installed last week at NAAG's summer meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo.

He succeeds as NAAG president Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch, a Democrat.

As the NAAG leader, Bruning will name a presidential initiative that the attorneys general will meet and discuss later in his term.

For Bruning, he said his initiative will be to protect consumers and businesses from fraud and to protect children from sexual predators.

"Attorneys general are uniquely situated to lead the way in building a stronger and safer future for our states and our families," Bruning said. "Serving as president of NAAG is an honor, and I look forward to working with my colleagues on issues that affect us on both the state and national level."

At the Colorado meeting, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper was elected as the group's president-elect, while Washington Attorney General Rob McKenna was elected as vice president.
