Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County


A total of 11 new lawsuits regarding hurricane damage claims were filed against insurance companies in Jefferson County District Court during the week of June 15 through June 19.

The following complaints were filed regarding Hurricane Ike:

  • Lesha Crawford, doing business as Learning Tree Child Development, of 5090 Concord in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned adjusters Timothy Weir and Sandy Boothe to investigate. Crawford is represented by Rene M. Sigman and J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-299.

  • Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church of 710 IH-10 East in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claim for roof, structural, water, wind and contents damages caused to its property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Catastrophe Services, Inc. and adjuster Samuel Woodard to investigate. Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mosytn Law Firm in Beaumont, J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and David P. Wilson and Matthew C Matheny of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing it.   • Alpha Omega Baptist Church of 6225 Terrell in Groves alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claims for roof, wind, water and contents damages caused to its property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Brush Country Claims Ltd. and adjuster Tina Shanks to investigate. Alpha Omega will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont, by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and by David P. Wilson and Matthew C.   • ANF Brothers Inc., doing business as Super Stop 19, of 6450 Calder Ave. in Beaumont, alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied a portion of its claim for building, contents, inventory, equipment, canopy, gas pumps and sign damages after Hurricane Ike hit on Sept. 13. ANF Brothers is represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D184-311.

  • John and Clara Griffin of 4141 Cobblestone Lane in Port Arthur allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied a portion of their claim for dwelling, structure and contents damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Griffins are represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-312.

  • Dorothy Joseph of 1610 East 13th St. in Port Arthur alleges National Lloyds Insurance Company denied her claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. National Lloyds assigned Michael Vieregg to oversee the claim. In turn, Vieregg assigned Compass Adjusting Services Inc., and adjusters Jimmy Davis and Randy Hunter to investigate. Joseph is represented by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston.   • Dodie Harris of 2045 Somerset St. in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for roof, water, foundation, structural and contents damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied her claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned Texas Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, Four Seasons Claims Services Inc., and adjuster Michael Sterner to investigate.   • John and Wanda Augustine of 2144 Waverly Circle in Port Arthur alleges State Farm Lloyds denied their claim for water, wind and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Augustines are represented by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston and by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont.   • Hauck Enterprises of 342 Twin City Highway in Port Neches alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claim for structure, contents and inventory damages, plus extra expense and loss of business income. The damages occurred after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after it assigned The Littleton Group and adjuster Ed Bradshaw to investigate. Hauck Enterprises is represented by Rick Carrasco of Rick Carrasco and Associates in Humble. Jefferson County District Court case number: E184-328.

  • Robert and Eugenie West of 309 Bayou Dr. in Beaumont allege Texas Farmers Insurance Company denied their claim for roof, water, wind and structural damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The Wests are represented by Lance P. Bradley of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberly, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-329.

  • Ethel Johnson of 4112 Ogden in Beaumont alleges Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company improperly paid her claim for dwelling and contents damages caused to her home after Hurricane Ike hit on Sept. 13. Jefferson County District Court case number: B184-335.
