Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of nine new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court during the week of July 13 through July 17.

The following complaints were filed regarding Hurricane Ike:

  • Howard and Theresa Antwine of 1210 Church St. in Beaumont allege National Lloyds Insurance Company denied their claim for roof, water, wind, foundation and contents damages caused to their home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. National Lloyds denied the claim after it assigned Michael Vieregg to oversee the claim, according to the complaint. In turn, Vieregg assigned Compass Adjusting Services and adjusters Raymond Feight, Collie Boatright, Jacklynn Jaral, Mary Wolfe and Randy Hunter to investigate. Rene M. Sigman and J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston will be representing them. Jefferson County District Court case number: A184-497.

  • Ella Mae Colone of 1915 Sarah St. in Beaumont alleges Farmers Insurance Exchange denied a portion of her claims for roof and water damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Colone is represented by Paul A. Smith Jr. and Carlos E. Solis of Solis and Smith in San Antonio and by Danny R. Scott Jr. of the Law Office of Danny R. Scott Jr. in Beaumont.   • Gerardo and Nazira Mejia of 1905 Woodrow Drive in Port Arthur allege Farmers Insurance Exchange denied a portion of their claim for roof and water damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Paul A. Smith Jr. and Carlos E. Solis of Solis and Smith in San Antonio and Danny R. Scott Jr. of the Law Office of Danny R. Scott Jr. in Beaumont will be representing the Mejias.   • Travis and Connie Purdy of 1360 Roberts St. in Beaumont; David Lewis Sr. of 1035 Devilleneuve in Beaumont; James C. and Pamela M. Smith of 1135 Doucette St. in Beaumont; Rebecca Thibeaux of 1145 Doucette St. in Beaumont and Joseph and Irma Martin of 1703 Burton in Beaumont allege Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company denied a portion of their claims for roof and water damages arising after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. The plaintiffs are represented by Paul A. Smith Jr. and Carlos E. Solis of Solis and Smith in San Antonio and by Danny R. Scott Jr. of the Law Office of Danny R. Scott Jr. in Beaumont.   • Ida Riggs of Beaumont claims Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company has failed to pay in full the claim for damages to her property she submitted on Sept. 14. Riggs is represented by Tom N. Keihnhoff of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont. Madison County Circuit Court case number: B184-498.

  • John and Fern Savoy of 2070 Toledo St. in Beaumont allege National Lloyd's Insurance Company denied their claim for wind damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. National Lloyd's denied the claim after it assigned Compass Adjusting Services and adjuster Billie Nugent to investigate. The Savoys are represented by John Pat Parsons and Cindy L. McLendon of the Lindsay Law Firm in Beaumont. Madison County Circuit Court case number: B184-517.

  • William Semien of 1400 E. 18th St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied his claim for roof, water, wind, contents and foundation damages caused to his home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned U.S. Adjusting SE Inc. and adjuster Michael Morton to investigate. Semien is represented by Michael R.   • St. Paul United Methodist Church of 821 Texas Ave. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claim for roof, wind, water, structural and contents damages caused to its property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. TWIA denied the claim after its Vice President of Claims Reggie Warren assigned All-Tech Claims Management and adjuster David Reed to investigate. St. Paul is represented by Michael R. Ramsey and Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston. David P. Wilson and Matthew C.   • James Thomas and Sandra Haven of 513 Donna Court in Port Neches allege Republic Lloyds denied their claim for roof, water, wind, contents and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13. Republic Lloyds denied their claim after it assigned Compass Adjusting Services to examine it, according to the complaint. In turn, Compass assigned adjusters Raymond G. Smith and Gary Houchins to investigate. Thomas and Haven are represented by Rene M. Sigman and J. Steve Mostyn of The Mostyn Law Firm in Houston.
