Woman falls on wet substance, sues retailer

A Groves woman says she slipped and fell on a wet substance while shopping at the Jefferson County Wal-mart Supercenter.

Leslie Smith filed a lawsuit Nov. 12 in Jefferson County District Court against Wal-mart Stores Texas.

Smith claims she was shopping at the Jefferson County store on Dec. 14, 2007, when the incident occurred.

Because of the fall, Smith claims she suffered extensive injuries, physical pain, mental anguish and physical impairment and incurred medical expenses. In addition, she lost wages and lost her earning capacity, the suit states.

She blames Wal-mart for negligence.

Smith seeks unliquidated and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Ryan Douglas White and Jason L. Cansler of Brent Coon and Associates in Beaumont will be representing the plaintiff.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B185-318.
