Women's center sued for medical negligence

A local woman has filed suit against the Women's Center of Beaumont and the surgeon who operated on her.

Dawn Singleton filed the suit against Dr. Darryl Harris and the Women's Center on Dec. 9 in Jefferson County District Court, alleging she continues to suffer physically because of medical negligence.

According to her suit, on Sept. 25, 2007, Dr. Harris operated on Singleton at Memorial Hermann Baptist Hospital in Beaumont.

However, the suit does not state what type of surgery she underwent or how the defendants were negligent in their care of her.

The suit only accuses Dr. Harris of breaching the standard of care and says "when this case is tried, the evidence will show that Dr. Harris was negligent in his treatment."

Singleton is suing for past and future mental anguish, medical expenses, lost wages and impairment, all court costs and attorney's fees.

She is represented by Houston attorney Craig Lewis.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th Judicial District, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. D185-457
