Beaumont women sue driver who ran red light

Two Beaumont women claim they sustained multiple injuries after a driver failed to stop at a red light.

Angela Antoine and Erica Antoine filed a lawsuit Jan. 20 in Jefferson County District Court against Nakia B. Mazeil and Herman Berry.

According to the complaint, Angela Antoine was driving on Corley Street with Erica Antoine riding as her passenger on Feb. 22, 2008, when Mazeil failed to stop for a red light and slammed into their vehicle. At the time of the accident, Mazeil drove a vehicle belonging to Berry, according to the complaint.

Because of the accident, Angela Antoine suffered pain to her head, neck, abdomen and upper and lower back while Erica Antoine suffered pain to her neck, upper and lower back, left arm, chest and left hip, the suit states.

Both women incurred medical costs; lost earnings; lost their earning capacity; and suffered physical impairment, physical pain and mental anguish, the complaint says.

The Antoines seek an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which they may be entitled.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
