Beaumont residents sue over auto collision on College Street

Two Beaumont residents say they sustained pain and suffering after being in a collision with a driver failed who failed to yield the right-of-way.

Christina Kanakis and Scott Hart filed a lawsuit Feb. 2 in Jefferson County District Court against Theartis Carr.

Kanakis and Hart claim they were driving down College Street on Dec. 23 when Carr failed to yield the right-of-way and slammed into their vehicle.

Because of the collision, Kanakis and Hart claim suffered permanent injuries to their necks, backs, shoulders, feet and hands and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint. In addition, they suffered physical impairment, lost earnings, lost consortium, lost household services, suffered disfigurement, incurred mental anguish and sustained property damages, the suit states.

Kanakis and Hart blame Carr for failing to keep a proper lookout, for failing to swerve to avoid a collision, for driving in their lane of traffic, for driving too fast, for failing to apply his brakes and for failing to stop and yield.

They seek damages within the jurisdictional limit of the court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which they may be entitled.

Steven Ray Thomas of Chambers, Templeton, Thomas and Brinkley in Lumberton will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B185-849.
