Beaumont sued over auto collision with city vehicle

A woman has filed suit against the city of Beaumont and one of its employees after she says the employee backed his tractor into her vehicle.

Joanna Prejean claims she was driving down Scranton Street in Beaumont on March 27, 2008, when Louis Joseph Gilder, who was driving a tractor for the city, backed into her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Prejean claims she incurred medical costs and property damage; lost her earnings and her earning capacity; and suffered physical impairment, pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed March 4 in Jefferson County District Court.

Prejean claims the city of Beaumont is liable for the accident.

She is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which she may be entitled.

Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-166.
