The mother of a deceased girl has filed suit against the doctors she alleges caused her daughter's death.

Debra Llanes claims her daughter, Mary Guidroz, began receiving care from defendants Debra J. Lusk, Neil A. Burrell and Podiatry Associates of Southeast Texas on Jan. 29, 2008.

She continued to receive treatment from them until May 2008, according to the complaint filed March 17 in Jefferson County District Court.

During that time, the defendants failed to provide Mary Guidroz with proper and adequate health care, the suit states.

According to the suit, for example, they failed to appropriately assess and treat Guidroz's condition, failed to timely manage and initiate appropriate treatments and failed to timely prescribe and initiate proper medications and treatments, the complaint says.

In addition, Llanes claims the defendants failed to monitor and ensure safe care by their nurses and staff.

As a result of the defendants' negligence, Guidroz was physically injured, impaired and disfigured and suffered physical pain and mental anguish until her death, according to the complaint.

After Guidroz's death, Llanes suffered the loss of her daughter's emotional and financial support, care, counsel, advice, nurture, guidance, affection, happiness and "anticipation of all the pleasures and strengths that a child can provide to her parent," the suit states.

She suffered severe mental anguish and pain and incurred funeral and burial expenses, the complaint says.

Guidroz seeks actual and exemplary damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
