A Port Arthur woman alleges she sustained severe bodily injuries after a driver drove through the meat market where she stood.

Jacqueline Follins filed a lawsuit March 18 in Jefferson County District Court against Rodney Eddie and Germain Eddie.

Follins claims she visited Durham's Meat Market located at 1409 E. 10th St. in Port Arthur on Nov. 14 when Rodney Eddie, who drove west in the 500 block of Gillham Circle, crashed into the store.

As the Southeast Texas Record reported, another patron at Durham's, Russell January, filed a suit against Rodney Eddie and the owner of the market on Dec. 29. January allegedly lost an eye when a piece of equipment fell on him as the truck crashed through the market.

Follins claims she suffered injuries to her head, face, knee and body; incurred a deterioration of her physical and mental condition; and sustained great pain and anguish, according to the complaint. In addition, she suffered losses, incurred medical costs and lost wages and her earning capacity, the suit states.

She blames Rodney Eddie for causing the incident, saying he failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to control his speed, failed to yield the right-of-way, failed to drive in a safe manner, failed to apply his brakes and drove inattentively.

Follins also names Germain Eddie as a defendant, saying he should never have lent his vehicle to Rodney Eddie because he should have known of Rodney Eddie's reckless driving habits, the complaint says.

Follins seeks an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
