Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County, May 3-7, 2010

A total of seven new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court, May 3-7, 2010.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Michael D. Getz of 8715 Lafayette in Beaumont, 9415 Mapes in Beaumont and 8050 Palmetto Dunes Circle in Beaumont claims Fire Insurance Exchange wrongly denied and underpaid damages caused to his rental properties. Clint Brasher and Joe Muckleroy of Beaumont will be representing him. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-777

  • Pleasure Island Sea Cabins, doing business as Sea Cabins Homeowners Association, of 560 and 580 Pleasure Island Blvd. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied its claim for roof, interior and exterior damages caused to its property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Pleasure Island Sea Cabins will be represented by A. Craig Eiland of the Law Offices of A. Craig Eiland in Galveston. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-806

  • Charles Prevost of 2865 South Fifth St. in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association limited his claim for wind damage to the roof of his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008.

  • Wayne and Cheryl Riley of 6217 32nd St. in Groves allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Rileys will be represented by Lance P. Bradley and Gordon D. Friesz of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-775.

  • Elizabeth Smith of 2465 Ave. I in Beaumont alleges Capitol County Mutual Fire Insurance Company denied her claim for roof, water, wind, foundation and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Capitol denied her claim after it assigned ICA Adjusters and adjusters Brian Wombacher and Raymond Smith to investigate, according to the complaint. Elizabeth Smith will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont and by David P. Wilson and Matthew C. Matheny of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A186-803.

  • Maggie Swafford of 2333 Ave. B in Port Arthur alleges American Modern Home Insurance Company denied her claim for dwelling, structure and contents damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Swafford will be represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D186-774.

  • Rose Widow of 3237 18th St. in Port Arthur alleges Unitrin Preferred Insurance Company denied her claim for roof, water, wind, contents, foundation and structural damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Unitrin denied Widow's claim after ICA Adjusters sent adjusters David Richmond and John Huff to investigate. Widow will be represented by Mike R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-802.
