Heirs in dispute over property division

The children of a deceased man have filed suit against relatives over how an inheritance should be divided.

Lillie Whittington, Betty Bradley and Carl Dodd claim they inherited a home at 2245 Normandy St. in Beaumont after their father, George Dodd Sr., died.

However, defendants Latonia Dodd, Carla Williams, Dwayne Dodd, Shauda Dodd and Darrell Dodd also inherited a portion of the property after their father, George Dodd Jr., died, according to the complaint filed May 4 in Jefferson County District Court.

The plaintiffs each own a 1/4 interest in the property while the defendants each own a 1/16 interest in it, the suit states.

"Plaintiffs assert that the property is a residence and incapable of being partitioned in kind," the complaint says. "Therefore, Plaintiffs request that the Court order the property to be sold and the proceeds distributed amongst George Dodd Sr.'s heirs."

The plaintiffs are also seeking other relief the court deems just.

George E. Bean of Cashiola and Bean in Beaumont will be representing them.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-782.
