Women allege child injured by care center employee
GALVESTON - Two Galveston County women have filed suit against a facility that specializes in assisting children with behavioral and emotional problems after an employee allegedly harmed a child six months ago.
Plaintiffs Renee and Amelia Villafranca claim that on Nov. 13, 2009, Shiloh Treatment Center teacher Roy Swan injured 8-year-old Alexander Villafranca while he restrained the boy.
In a lawsuit filed May 12 in Galveston County District Court, Swan broke the child's left arm and fractured his left wrist while trying to forcefully restrain him, the plaintiffs claim.
The suit faults the defendant for hiring Swan and failing to properly supervise the children under its care.
Consequently, the plaintiffs seek damages for physical pain and suffering, mental anguish, and medical expenses.
Attorney Loren G. Klitsas of Houston is representing the Villafrancas.
Galveston County 405th District Court Judge Wayne Mallia is presiding over the case.
