Suit says driver changed lanes, caused wreck

Juhan

A Port Neches man claims he suffered severe pain to his left ankle, neck, back, arm and wrist after a driver changed lanes at an unsafe moment.

Fred Gloria filed a lawsuit May 17 in Jefferson County District Court against Tara Shiflet.

Gloria claims he drove on State Highway 347 in Beaumont on June 24, 2008, when Shiflet changed lanes and slammed into his vehicle.

In addition to his injuries, Gloria incurred medical costs because of the collision, lost his earnings and his earning capacity and suffered physical impairment and physical pain, according to the complaint.

Gloria also endured mental anguish and incurred property damages, the suit states.

Gloria blames Shiflet for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes and failed to pass to the left of a vehicle at a safe distance.

In his complaint, Gloria seeks an unspecified judgment, plus pre-judgment interest, costs and other relief to which he may be entitled.

Jonathan C. Juhan of Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.

Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-873.
