Latest hurricane-related insurance suits filed in Jefferson County

A total of six new lawsuits against insurance companies over hurricane damage claims have been filed in Jefferson County District Court, May 24-28, 2010.

The following complaints were filed:

  • Sandra Smith of 5565 Scenic Drive in Beaumont alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Smith will be represented by Rocky Lawdermilk of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-940.

  • Charles Prevost of 13575 Rolling Hills in Beaumont alleges Foremost Insurance Group denied his claim for damages he sustained on July 16, 2008, after drainage problems and denied his subsequent claim for damages caused to his home after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Prevost will be represented by Thomas J. Pearson of Houston. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-950.

  • Patricia Cryer of 2028 East 13th St. in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Cryer will be represented by Lance P. Bradley and Gordon D. Friesz of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele and Chatelain in Port Arthur. Jefferson County District Court case number: E186-952.

  • Sarah Dunnam individually and as independent executrix of the estate of Lawrence Merendino Sr. claims Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied her claims for damages caused to her property at 8535 FM 365 in Beaumont on July 8, 2008, after a wind storm ripped through the area. Her property was further damaged on Sept. 13, 2008, after Hurricane Ike struck, and, again, TWIA denied her claim for damages, according to the complaint. Dunnam will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A186-960.

  • Kirk and Tammie Blood doing business as Tammie's Old Tyme Diner of 5405 S. Gulfway Drive in Sabine Pass allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for loss of income and roof, wind, water, foundation, structural and contents damages caused to their business after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Bloods will be represented by Gregory F. Cox of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-966.

  • Ellen and David Logan of 2025 Bun St. in Beaumont allege Texas Windstorm Insurance Association denied their claim for roof, wind, water and structural damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. The Logans will be represented by Michael R. Ramsey of The Mostyn Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: B186-967.
