An Orange County woman has filed suit against her former employer, alleging she sustained injuries to her right knee while attempting to lift heavy equipment at work.
Jennifer Buentello claims she was working for defendant Buckner Children and Family Services on June 13, 2008, when she suffered serious and disabling injuries to her right knee while lifting an unspecified object.
As a result of the incident, Buentello had to endure surgery on her right knee; incurred medical costs; lost her earning capacity; and experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment, according to the complaint filed June 9 in Jefferson County District Court.
Buckner Children and Family Services negligently failed to provide Buentello a safe place to work, failed to provide her with lifting equipment to safely perform her duties, failed to instruct her, failed to take preventative action, failed to adequately train employees, failed to adhere to and follow company policies, failed to require additional manpower and failed to ensure its equipment was in proper working order, the suit states.
In her complaint, Buentello is seeking actual and exemplary damages, pre- and post-judgment interest at the highest rates allowed by law, costs and other relief the court deems just.
